Restoring Fremantle’s heritage floors
Fremantle has some of the oldest homes in Perth – limestone cottages, Victorian terraces and Federation houses with jarrah and Baltic pine floors. Many of these floors have been sanded several times over the past century, not always well. Heritage floor sanding in Fremantle often means fixing old mistakes as well as restoring the timber.
We regularly see dips around doorways, waves across the room and chatter marks from poorly set-up machines. With careful sanding, many of these can be levelled out – as long as there’s enough timber left above the tongue. We check this before we start, and replace boards that are too thin.
Once the floor is level and sound, we fill gaps and polish with a finish that suits a heritage home, bringing out the warmth and character of the old timber.
